Leanne Reetz, Immigration Attorney

Leanne Reetz

Immigration Attorney | Removal Defense & Federal Litigation

Leanne Reetz is an immigration attorney who represents individuals and families facing some of the most difficult and high-stakes situations in the immigration system. Her practice focuses on removal defense, detained immigration cases, complex immigration litigation, and federal court challenges to unlawful immigration detention.

Leanne understands that for her clients, an immigration case is never simply a legal matter. The outcome can determine whether someone remains with their family, returns home to their children, is released from detention, or is able to continue building a life in the United States. She believes clients deserve an attorney who will listen to them, explain their options honestly and clearly, and fight for them at every stage of the process.

Leanne represents clients before the Immigration Courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals and has litigated immigration matters in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. She has represented clients seeking asylum, withholding of removal, cancellation of removal, adjustment of status, bond, and other forms of relief from removal. She also represents detained individuals in federal habeas corpus litigation challenging unlawful detention.

Her approach to representation is both personal and strategic. Immigration cases often turn on details—an overlooked fact, a change in the law, a procedural error, or evidence that has not yet been fully developed. Leanne takes the time to understand each client’s history and circumstances, identify the strongest available legal arguments, and build the factual and legal record necessary to present the client’s case effectively.

Before focusing her practice on immigration law, Leanne worked as a civil litigation attorney, representing clients in complex cases involving depositions, expert witnesses, discovery, and motion practice. She later spent more than a decade in public education, including serving as a school principal. That experience continues to shape the way she works with clients today: she values communication, preparation, problem-solving, and making complicated information understandable.

For Leanne, effective immigration representation means more than preparing documents or appearing in court. It means making sure clients understand what is happening, know what choices they have, and have an advocate prepared to pursue every viable avenue to protect their rights and their future.

Leanne earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois College of Law and is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado and the Southern District of Illinois. She is also authorized to practice before the Executive Office for Immigration Review.
